About One World Information System (OWIS™)

One World Information System offers a capability to improve knowledge-worker productivity, mission-performance and resource accountability, innovation and adaptation ability, for any purposeful endeavor of any size and complexity.  This production capability is based on a technical design offering a One (1) World Information System (WIS)™ integrating and extending the functionality of the Internet, the Web, the Semantic Web, organizational intranets, and small-group and individual workstations for the endeavor participants.  We formed this non-profit educational organization to provide full support for this concept.  To support the implementation of this concept, we have invented the "Generalized Endeavor Management"™ (GEM™) methodology, management repository, and repository-based functional applications.  Our publications, addressing technical, business, managerial, social, perceptual, and scientific aspects of GEM are available online and in electronic format (pdf).

GEM is a universal "management solution" architecture and methodology.  It consists of an endeavor life cycle management methodology, with integrated operation and intelligence life cycle processes and knowledge-bases, supported by various tailored combinations of open-standard, open-source, and commercial technologies that fit your current and future IT environment.  These technologies allow each GEM user, group, and organization to have a GEM model driven enterprise management (MDEM) repository that fits their needs, securely integrated with other GEM repositories as they see fit. 

From the foundation of a GEM (extended metadata) repository, continuously refined through the use of the methodology, GEM can integrate existing information systems, provide the foundation for GEM-based applications for new information processing requirements, or subsume existing information systems during their next redesign/redevelopment.  GEM supports the integrated flow of enterprise operations, supported by operationally refined human intelligence and organizational intelligence.

We have also separately packaged the portion of the GEM methodology that guides the development and maintenance of an Enterprise Architecture.  This basic enterprise architecture methodology (BEAM) provides a simple procedure to help anyone in attaining the benefits of an enterprise architecture developed within the larger structure of an enterprise management process.

GEM has been fully developed over the last 26+ years, from concepts researched over the past 30+ years, all based on timeless principles of management.  GEM provides integrated Enterprise "Management, Engineering, Architecture, Improvement, and Security" (MIAES™). It also directly supports and extends, through BEAM, a variety of approaches to Enterprise Architecture, such as the U.S. Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA).

BEAM and GEM, respectively, provide a solid foundation for an adaptive enterprise architecture and enterprise management.  GEM and BEAM are free for anyone to use.  OWIS provides support for BEAM and GEM  through fee-based services and coaching.

The GEM presentation (here in PDF) is focused on the use of GEM for achieving an Executive Manager's Agenda and priority initatives.  A more detailed version is also available (here in PDF). OWIS is the Global Distributor and Support Channel of this material.  OWIS has also teamed with several Management Consulting and IT Service firms for implementation of GEM/BEAM services and GEM-based application development.  These firms have very rich sets of Government Contracting Vehicles (e.g., GSA, Encore, COMMITS, CIO-SP) and excellent business ratings and reputations.  These contracting vehicles enable GEM/BEAM services to be more easily used by US Federal, State, and Local government organizations, and to organizations of US NATO-Allied governments.  Note that the GEM approach is considered public domain technical data under the FAR/DFAR.

When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent.
